About Mineral Salt Lake from Above, Qinghai

Qinghai province, on the north-eastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau in China, is home to the Qaidam Basin, a high, dry land of deserts and salt lakes. In the shallow lakes, water evaporates in the sun and wind and leaves behind salts and minerals, which are mined for potash and lithium. From the air, the brines and salt crusts make swirling patterns in white, grey, rust and ochre, like an abstract painting.

Puzzle tip: the bright white salt and the orange water make clear areas; the grey swirls along the edges need the most care.
