The Great Wall of China
The Great Wall, built and rebuilt over many dynasties, winds across mountains and deserts for thousands of kilometres. In Beijing, the Forbidden City was the palace of emperors for almost five centuries, and the round Temple of Heaven was where they prayed for good harvests.
In the south, the Li River near Guilin flows between green karst hills, and in Zhangjiajie thousands of sandstone pillars rise out of the mist. High on the Tibetan Plateau you can piece together the Potala Palace in Lhasa, turquoise Yamdrok Lake and prayer flags fluttering in the wind, while Shanghai shows the modern face of the country.
