About Najd Al Maqsar Heritage Village, Khor Fakkan

Najd Al Maqsar is an old mountain village in Wadi Shie, a valley in the Hajar Mountains inland from Khor Fakkan. Its houses were built of local stone and mud, with roofs of palm trunks and fronds, and its people grew dates and vegetables on terraces watered by a falaj, a channel that brings water from springs higher up the valley. When families moved to the coast in the twentieth century the village emptied, and it has since been restored as a heritage site, with a watchtower guarding the houses. This photo shows the stone village among the rugged peaks.

Puzzle tip: start with the stone houses and the tower, then fill the dark rocky mountains around them.
