About Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania

The Ngorongoro Crater is the largest unbroken volcanic caldera in the world, about 20 kilometres across and 600 metres deep. It formed when a huge volcano collapsed around two to three million years ago. Its floor of grassland, swamps and a soda lake is home to some 25,000 large animals, including black rhinos, lions and elephants. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Puzzle tip: the lake and the crater walls make clear bands; the grassland is best sorted by shade.
