Mount Kilimanjaro, 5,895 metres high, is the tallest free-standing mountain in the world and still has snow near the equator. On the plains of the Serengeti, more than a million wildebeest, together with zebras and gazelles, follow the rains each year in the great migration, crossing rivers such as the Mara where crocodiles wait.
Ngorongoro Crater is a huge volcanic caldera whose floor is home to lions, elephants and rhinos. Off the coast, Zanzibar's Stone Town is a maze of narrow streets and carved wooden doors, while dhows with triangular sails glide over the turquoise sea.
