About Notre-Dame Basilica, Montreal

Notre-Dame Basilica stands on Place d'Armes in Old Montreal. It was built between 1824 and 1829 to a design by the Irish-American architect James O'Donnell, and when it opened it was the largest church in North America. Its Gothic Revival interior is famous for its deep blue vaulted ceiling scattered with golden stars and for the richly carved altarpiece lit from behind. The great Casavant organ has about 7,000 pipes. In this photo the glowing altar, stained glass and blue and gold woodwork fill the whole view.

Puzzle tip: start with the bright altar in the centre, then the blue ceiling, and finish with the dark pews and pillars.
