About Old Houses of Al-Balad, Jeddah

Al-Balad is the historic centre of Jeddah, on the Red Sea coast. Since the 7th century the city has been the gateway for pilgrims arriving by sea on their way to Mecca, and its merchants grew rich on the trade. They built tall tower houses of coral stone taken from the sea, with large wooden lattice balconies called rawasheen, which let the breeze in while keeping the rooms shaded and private. Historic Jeddah has been a World Heritage Site since 2014, and many of its houses are being restored.

Puzzle tip: the wooden balconies are the most detailed part; match the pale walls and the sky afterwards.
