About Elephant Rock, AlUla

Elephant Rock, called Jabal AlFil in Arabic, is a sandstone formation about 50 metres tall in the desert near AlUla, in north-western Saudi Arabia. Over millions of years, wind and occasional rain wore away the softer rock until only a shape remained that looks like an elephant with its trunk reaching down to the sand. AlUla is an oasis valley with palm groves and the ruins of ancient kingdoms, and the desert around it is full of rocks shaped like arches, mushrooms and faces.

Puzzle tip: the rock's outline against the blue sky is easy to follow; the sand at the bottom comes last.
