About Palm Trees on Waikiki Beach

Kapiʻolani Park, at the quieter eastern end of Waikiki, is one of the oldest public parks in the United States, opened in 1877 by King Kalākaua. Its palm trees and lawns run down to the beach, with Diamond Head rising behind them. On the reef just offshore, surfers wait for the long, rolling waves that made Waikiki famous.

Puzzle tip: the row of palms and the crater make a clear band; sort the sea by its blues.
