About Percé Rock, Gaspé Peninsula

Percé Rock is a huge block of limestone, about 430 metres long and 88 metres high, standing in the sea off the tip of Quebec's Gaspé Peninsula. Its name means "pierced" in French, after the arch the waves have worn through its end. At low tide a sandbar lets visitors walk out to its base. Nearby Bonaventure Island is home to one of the largest northern gannet colonies in the world. In this photo the long, flat-topped rock rises from the calm blue sea under a light sky.

Puzzle tip: start with the long rock and its layers, then separate the sea from the sky by their shades of blue.
