About Ram-Headed Sphinxes at Karnak Temple, Luxor

Karnak, on the edge of Luxor, was the greatest temple of ancient Thebes and one of the largest religious sites ever built. Pharaohs added to it for about two thousand years, mostly in honour of the god Amun-Ra. The rows of ram-headed sphinxes in front of the huge first gateway stand for Amun, whose sacred animal was the ram. Behind the gateway lies the Great Hypostyle Hall, a forest of 134 stone columns, and a road lined with sphinxes once ran almost three kilometres from here to Luxor Temple; it was cleared and opened again in 2021.

Puzzle tip: start with the sphinxes on both sides and the path between them; the gateway walls and the sky go last.
