About Red Cliffs of Cavendish, Prince Edward Island

Prince Edward Island, Canada's smallest province, is famous for its red sandstone cliffs and red soil, coloured by iron oxide. Cavendish, on the north shore, is the setting that inspired Lucy Maud Montgomery's 1908 novel Anne of Green Gables, which still draws visitors from around the world. The soft cliffs are constantly shaped by waves and ice, so their forms change from year to year. Since 1997 the 12.9-kilometre Confederation Bridge has linked the island to the mainland. In this photo layered red rock meets the sea.

Puzzle tip: start with the layers of red rock, then the green grass on top, and finish with the sea and sky.
