About Šibenik from the Water

Šibenik, in central Dalmatia, is the oldest town on the Adriatic coast founded by Croats rather than by Romans or Greeks; it was first mentioned in 1066. Its old town climbs the hillside from the harbour in steep lanes and stairways, up to the fortress of Saint Michael at the top. The Cathedral of Saint James, built between 1431 and 1535 entirely of stone, is famous for a frieze of seventy-one carved human heads on its outer walls; it has been a World Heritage Site since 2000. The Venetian fortress of Saint Nicholas guards the entrance to the channel.

Puzzle tip: start with the houses at the water's edge and the fortress above; the blue water and the sky come last.
