About Siwash Rock, Stanley Park, Vancouver

Siwash Rock is a pillar of volcanic rock standing just off the shore of Stanley Park, Vancouver's great park of about 400 hectares, which opened in 1888. A small tree has grown on its top for as long as anyone remembers. In a Squamish legend the rock is a man turned to stone as a reward for his unselfishness. The Stanley Park Seawall, a path for walkers and cyclists, passes right below it on its way around the park. In this photo the rock rises from the calm water with ships waiting in the bay beyond.

Puzzle tip: start with the dark rock and its tree, then the cliffs on the shore, and finish with the sea and sky.
