About Sozopol on the Black Sea from Above

Sozopol is one of the oldest towns on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. It was founded in the seventh century BC by Greek colonists, who named it Apollonia after the god Apollo and set up a giant bronze statue of him, later carried off to Rome. The old town lies on a rocky peninsula and keeps many wooden houses from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, while sandy beaches curve away on both sides. Out at sea lies the island of St Ivan, with the ruins of a medieval monastery. This aerial photo shows the town, its beach and the blue sea.

Puzzle tip: start with the curve of the beach, then fill the rooftops of the town and the blue sea around it.
