About Stilt Houses of Kampong Ayer, Bandar Seri Begawan

Kampong Ayer, the "Water Village", is a cluster of villages built on stilts over the Brunei River, opposite the centre of Bandar Seri Begawan. People have lived here for more than a thousand years. When the explorer Antonio Pigafetta visited in 1521 with Magellan's expedition, he described a great city built over the water. Today some ten thousand people live in its houses, which have electricity and running water. Water taxis carry residents across the river to the city, a trip of just a few minutes.

Puzzle tip: the row of stilts makes a clear line along the water; the houses above it are easier to sort by colour.
