About Switchbacks of the Zion–Mount Carmel Highway

The Zion–Mount Carmel Highway climbs out of Zion Canyon in a series of tight switchbacks before entering a tunnel about 1.8 kilometres long. When the road and tunnel opened in 1930, the tunnel was the longest of its kind in the United States, and windows were cut through its rock wall to let in light and air. Today large vehicles can pass only with an escort that stops traffic going the other way. Seen from above, the road zigzags up a slope of red rock, junipers and pines.

Puzzle tip: follow the grey road from bend to bend first, then fill the red slopes and green trees between the turns.
