About Tainan Confucius Temple

Tainan's Confucius Temple was built in 1665 and is the oldest Confucius temple in Taiwan. It also served as a school for classical learning, which is why it is sometimes called Taiwan's first school. The complex has been repaired and rebuilt several times over the centuries, but its courtyards, red walls and tiled roofs still tell the story of its educational role. Visitors enter a quieter space away from the busy streets of Tainan. This photo shows the layered roof and timber details of one of its halls.

Puzzle tip: build the decorated roof first; its ridges and tiles lead down to the red columns and courtyard.
