About The Needle and the Porte d'Aval, Étretat

Étretat is a seaside town in Normandy famous for its tall white chalk cliffs, shaped by the waves into arches and pillars. The best known are the Porte d'Aval, a great arch like an elephant dipping its trunk into the sea, and the Aiguille, or Needle, a pointed rock about fifty metres high standing just offshore. The cliffs inspired painters such as Claude Monet, who painted them dozens of times in the 1880s, and the writer Maurice Leblanc, who made the Needle the secret hiding place of his gentleman thief Arsène Lupin. Here both stand in a calm blue-green sea.

Puzzle tip: start with the white needle and the arch, then the green top of the cliff, and finish with the sea and the sky.
