Prague is often called the city of a hundred spires. Prague Castle, rising above the Vltava River, is one of the largest castle complexes in the world, with St Vitus Cathedral at its centre. Below it, the stone Charles Bridge, begun in 1357, is lined with statues of saints and busy with walkers from morning to night.
On the Old Town Square, crowds gather every hour to watch the Astronomical Clock, installed in 1410 and one of the oldest clocks in the world still working, while the twin towers of the Týn Church look down from the other side.
