About Equatorial Guinea
Portugal first claimed the islands, and in 1778 handed them to Spain, which ruled the country until 1968. It is the only country in Africa where Spanish is an official language. The capital, Malabo, is on Bioko, while a new capital, Ciudad de la Paz, is being built on the mainland.
You can assemble Lake Biaó in the crater of a volcano, canoes on Arena Blanca beach, a fountain among the colonial buildings of Malabo, the church above Luba and the rainforest of Monte Alén National Park.
