Mauritius is a volcanic island in the Indian Ocean, east of Madagascar, surrounded by turquoise lagoons and coral reefs. It was also the only home of the dodo, a flightless bird that became extinct in the seventeenth century. Our Mauritius puzzles show its mountains, lagoons and coloured earth.

Le Morne Brabant, Mauritius
Le Morne Peninsula from Above, Mauritius
In the south-west, the Seven Coloured Earth of Chamarel is a patch of rolling dunes where volcanic soil has weathered into bands of red, brown, purple and yellow. Nearby, the Chamarel Waterfall drops about a hundred metres into a green gorge.
Le Morne Brabant, a huge rock standing at the tip of a peninsula, is a World Heritage Site: in the past, escaped slaves hid in its caves and on its summit. Around the coast, the reef keeps the lagoons calm and clear, as around Flat Island.
