The Kumgang Mountains, whose name means Diamond Mountains, have been celebrated for centuries in Korean poems and paintings for their jagged granite peaks, waterfalls and clear pools. Further north, Mount Myohyang is home to Pohyon Temple, one of the most important Buddhist temples of Korea, first founded in the eleventh century.
In Pyongyang, the capital, the Pothong Gate is one of the old gates of the city walls, rebuilt in the fifteenth century with a traditional curved tiled roof.
