Portugal, on the western edge of Europe, was once the home of great ocean explorers. Our Portugal puzzles are set in its two main cities, Lisbon and Porto, with their tiled walls, old trams and river views.

Lisbon spreads over seven hills beside the wide mouth of the River Tagus. After a great earthquake in 1755, its lower town was rebuilt with straight streets leading to the Rua Augusta Arch. The Belém Tower, built in the sixteenth century, guarded the harbour from which ships sailed to India and Brazil, and yellow trams still climb the steep lanes of the Alfama.
Porto rises above the River Douro, where boats once carried port wine down to the city. The iron Dom Luís I Bridge links its two banks, and churches such as the Capela das Almas are covered in blue and white tiles called azulejos.
