About Santa Catalina Arch, Antigua Guatemala

Antigua was the capital of Spanish Guatemala until a series of earthquakes in 1773 led the government to move to a new city. The yellow Santa Catalina Arch was built in the 17th century so that the nuns of the convent could cross the street without being seen; the clock was added later. With the cone of Volcán de Agua behind it, it is the best-known view in the town, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Puzzle tip: the yellow arch and its clock are the landmark; the colourful house fronts come next.
