About Scarlet Ibises Coming to Roost, Trinidad

The scarlet ibis is one of the two national birds of Trinidad and Tobago. Its feathers get their bright red colour from the shrimps and crabs it eats in the mangrove swamps. Every evening at the Caroni Swamp, near Port of Spain, thousands of ibises fly in to roost on the mangrove islands, turning the trees red, as visitors watch from small boats.

Puzzle tip: the red birds stand out clearly; the pale sky needs patience.
