About Red Fishing Cabins near Reine, Lofoten

Red wooden cabins line the rocky shore near Reine, a fishing village in the Lofoten Islands of northern Norway, below a steep granite peak dusted with snow. The cabins, called rorbuer, were built on poles at the water's edge for fishermen who came every winter for the great cod fishery, which still takes place from January to April. Today many of them are rented to visitors. Thanks to the warm Gulf Stream, the sea here stays free of ice, even though Lofoten lies north of the Arctic Circle.

Puzzle tip: the red cabins are the easiest part; the snowy mountains behind them and the dark sea take longer.
