About Bran Castle, Transylvania

Bran Castle stands on a rocky height near the mountain pass between Transylvania and Wallachia. The medieval fortress was built to guard a trade route and later served as a royal residence. Its towers, white walls and red roofs have made it one of Romania's best-known landmarks. The castle is often linked with Dracula stories, although the fictional character was not based on the building itself. In the photograph, the pale castle contrasts with the wooded hillside, making its unusual outline a useful starting point for the puzzle.

Puzzle tip: start with the white walls and red roofs; leave the similar-looking trees for last.
