About Athabasca Falls and Mount Kerkeslin

Behind Athabasca Falls rises Mount Kerkeslin, a 2,956-metre peak whose layered rock catches the light above the Athabasca Valley. The river here has travelled from the Columbia Icefield and is heavy with glacial silt, which gives it a grey-green colour. Over thousands of years the falls have moved slowly upstream as the water wears away the rock. Mist from the falls keeps the nearby trees and mosses damp. In this photo the wide white falls and rapids lead the eye to the snowy mountain in the distance.

Puzzle tip: start with the mountain and the clouds, then the rapids, and finish with the dark rocks in front.
