About Heddal Stave Church

Heddal Stave Church, in the Telemark region of southern Norway, is the largest of the country's surviving stave churches. It was built in the thirteenth century, and its three towers of shingled roofs rise like a wooden cathedral above the surrounding farmland. A legend says it was built in three days by a troll named Finn, who was promised a reward unless the farmer could guess his name. The church was restored in the nineteenth century and again in the 1950s and is still used for services and weddings. In this photo its dark roofs and towers rise above a stone wall under a cloudy sky.

Puzzle tip: start with the towers and the dark roofs, then the stone wall, and finish with the clouds and the sky.
