About Sugar Shack in a Maple Forest, Quebec

In March and April, the sugar time, Quebecers gather at sugar shacks for a hearty meal of pea soup, ham, baked beans, omelettes and pancakes, all served with maple syrup. A favourite treat is tire sur la neige, hot maple syrup poured on clean snow and rolled up on a wooden stick as it hardens into soft taffy. Maple syrup is so valuable that Quebec producers keep a strategic reserve of it, and in 2011–2012 thieves stole about 3,000 tonnes of syrup from a warehouse in what became known as the Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist. In this photo a small sugar shack with a stack of firewood stands in a snowy forest.

Puzzle tip: begin with the shack and the stack of firewood, then the bare trees, and leave the white snow for last.
