About Confederation Bridge to Prince Edward Island

The Confederation Bridge crosses the Northumberland Strait for 12.9 kilometres, linking Prince Edward Island with New Brunswick, and it is the longest bridge in the world over water that freezes in winter. Opened in 1997, it replaced the ferries that had carried people across the strait for more than a century, and the drive over it takes about ten minutes. The bridge curves gently along its length, which helps keep drivers alert, and its tall middle span lets ships pass underneath. In this photo the long row of concrete piers stretches away across the calm grey sea.

Puzzle tip: start with the concrete arches of the bridge, then the line of the far shore, and finish with the grey sea and the sky.
