About Old City and Harbour of Acre

Acre, or Akko, on the northern shore of the Bay of Haifa, is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the region. From 1191 to 1291 it was the capital of the Crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem, and its vast stone halls from that time still lie under the Ottoman town above. In the 18th century the governor Ahmed al-Jazzar built new sea walls and the mosque with a green dome, and in 1799 the city held out against Napoleon. Acre has been a World Heritage Site since 2001.

Puzzle tip: the sea walls make a clear outline between the town and the water; the roofs inside are easier after that.
