About Shore of the Dead Sea near Ein Gedi

The shore of the Dead Sea lies about 430 metres below sea level, the lowest land on Earth. Its water is almost ten times saltier than the ocean, so fish cannot live in it and swimmers float on the surface without effort. Salt crystals form white crusts along the shore. The level of the lake has been falling by more than a metre a year, because the Jordan River that feeds it now carries much less water. Across the lake rise the mountains of Jordan, often softened by haze.

Puzzle tip: the shoreline is a clear line to start from; the calm water and the hazy mountains need more patience.
