About Al Naslaa Rock, near Tayma

Al Naslaa is a sandstone boulder in the desert near the ancient oasis of Tayma, in north-western Saudi Arabia, that is split in two by a crack so straight it looks as if it was cut with a laser. Geologists think the crack followed a natural weakness in the rock and was then widened by wind and sand. Each half balances on a small base, and the flat sides are carved with ancient petroglyphs of horses and ibex. Tayma itself was an important stop on the incense route for thousands of years.

Puzzle tip: the straight crack splits the picture in two, so build each half separately; the sky fills in last.
