About Dragon’s Blood Forest and Goats, Socotra

On the high plateaus of central Socotra, such as Firmihin and Diksam, dragon's blood trees grow together in open forests, the largest left on the island. Goats wander between them, and the islanders have kept goats here for thousands of years. But the goats also eat young seedlings, so few new trees grow, and many of the forests are made up only of old trees. Scientists and local people now protect young trees with fences. Socotra is also home to the desert rose, a plant with a swollen, bottle-shaped trunk.

Puzzle tip: the dark tree crowns are clear shapes; the goats and the stony ground are easier once the trees are in.
