About Tartini Square, Piran

Tartini Square is the main square of Piran, named after the violinist and composer Giuseppe Tartini, who was born in the town in 1692. Until the late 19th century this was a small inner harbour for fishing boats; it was filled in in 1894 to make the oval square, and a bronze statue of Tartini was put up in 1896. Around it stand the town hall, the court house and the red Venetian House with its Gothic balcony. The bell tower of Saint George's rises on the hill behind. In this photo colourful houses and the tower stand around the bright, open square under a blue sky.

Puzzle tip: the bell tower and the pastel houses are the clearest parts; the pale stone of the square comes last.
