About Palm Trees and a Painted Canoe, Ada

Ada lies in the east of Ghana, where the Volta River, after its long journey through the country, meets the Gulf of Guinea. The estuary is a maze of sandbars, lagoons and small islands fringed with coconut palms, and many people here live from fishing, salt and farming. Sea turtles come ashore on the beaches to lay their eggs, and each year the town celebrates the Asafotufiami festival, which honours its warriors of the past. In this photo a red-and-yellow canoe rests on the wet sand beneath a cluster of tall coconut palms.

Puzzle tip: the painted canoe and the palm trunks are good starting points; the pale sky is the hardest part.
