About Fishing Canoes on the Beach at Prampram

Prampram is an old fishing town on the coast east of Accra, where an English fort, Fort Vernon, was built in the 18th century. Its beach is lined with long wooden canoes, each carved from a single tree trunk and painted with bright colours, flags and slogans or proverbs. Ghana's canoe fishermen go out in large crews, often before dawn, to set their nets for sardines and other fish, and the catch is sold and smoked right on the beach. In this aerial photo dozens of canoes are pulled up on the sand beside the long Atlantic waves.

Puzzle tip: the canoes give a clear pattern along the beach; the waves and the misty sea come last.
