About Sindou Peaks from the Air

The Sindou Peaks in southwestern Burkina Faso are a long ridge of sandstone that wind and rain have carved into hundreds of towers, needles and narrow walls. The rock was laid down as sand on the bottom of an ancient sea and has been slowly worn away ever since. For the Senufo people who live around them the peaks are a sacred place, and some rocks are used for ceremonies. This aerial photo shows the maze of grey rock towers rising out of the green savanna.

Puzzle tip: start with the grey rock towers and their shadows, then the green savanna around them, and the hazy horizon last.
