About Dogon Village below the Bandiagara Escarpment

The Dogon people live in hundreds of villages along the foot and the top of the Bandiagara Escarpment in central Mali. Their villages are built of mud and stone, with flat-roofed houses and many small granaries topped with pointed straw roofs like hats. Each village has a toguna, a low shelter where the men meet, with a roof so low that no one can stand up and start a fight. The Dogon are famous for their masked dances. This photo shows a village at the base of the cliff.

Puzzle tip: start with the pointed straw roofs of the granaries, then the mud walls, and the cliff and the sky last.
