About Lion Temple and Roman Kiosk, Naqa

Naqa, in the desert east of the Nile in Sudan, was a city of the Kingdom of Kush in the 1st century AD. Its Lion Temple is dedicated to Apedemak, a lion-headed war god worshipped only in Kush, and its walls are carved with the god, the king and the queen. Beside it stands the so-called Roman Kiosk, a small temple that mixes Egyptian, Greek and Roman styles in one building. Naqa is part of the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Island of Meroë. This photo shows the temple and the kiosk in the empty desert.

Puzzle tip: start with the carved temple wall, then the kiosk with its arches, and the sand and the sky last.
