About Sudan
The Kingdom of Kush flourished here for more than a thousand years; its kings once ruled Egypt as pharaohs, and they left behind more pyramids than Egypt itself. Later the land was home to Christian Nubian kingdoms and Islamic sultanates, and it was ruled jointly by Britain and Egypt until independence in 1956.
You can assemble the pyramids of Meroë in the desert and at Bajrawiya, the pyramids of Jebel Barkal and Nuri, the lion temples of Naqa and Musawwarat es-Sufra, and the Third Cataract of the Nile.
