About St Joseph's Cathedral, Asmara

St Joseph's Cathedral, built in 1923, is the main Catholic church of Asmara, with a tall red-brick bell tower that has become a symbol of the city. Asmara grew in the Italian colonial period, especially in the 1930s, into a city of bold modern buildings, cinemas, cafés and wide avenues lined with palms; its centre is a UNESCO World Heritage site, often called Africa's modernist city. People still sip espresso and ride bicycles along its streets. This photo shows the cathedral's brick front and steps.

Puzzle tip: start with the red brick front and its windows, then the steps and the people, and the sky last.
