About Hagia Sophia, Istanbul

Hagia Sophia was built as a cathedral by the Byzantine emperor Justinian and completed in 537. For nearly a thousand years it had the largest dome in the world. After the Ottomans conquered Constantinople in 1453 it became a mosque, and minarets were added around it. It was a museum from 1935 to 2020 and is now a mosque again, still open to visitors.

Puzzle tip: the great dome and the minarets are easy landmarks; the sky comes last.
