About Süleymaniye Mosque, Istanbul

The Süleymaniye Mosque crowns the third hill of Istanbul, above the Golden Horn. It was built between 1550 and 1557 for Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent by his great architect Mimar Sinan, who is buried nearby. The mosque was the centre of a large complex that included schools, a hospital, a library and a kitchen that fed the poor, and its four minarets and cascading domes dominate the skyline.

Puzzle tip: the domes and minarets on the hill are the landmark; the waterfront below comes next.
