About Zvartnots Cathedral Ruins, near Yerevan

Zvartnots Cathedral was built in the 7th century by Catholicos Nerses III, just west of present-day Yerevan. It was a round, three-storey church of remarkable design, dedicated to St Gregory the Illuminator, who brought Christianity to Armenia. It collapsed in the 10th century, perhaps in an earthquake, and its carved columns and arches were uncovered only in the early 20th century. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Puzzle tip: the columns and arches stand out against the sky; the ground and the stones come last.
