About Boats on the Thu Bon River, Hoi An

The Thu Bon River flows past the old town of Hoi An, where rows of yellow merchants' houses face the water. Small wooden boats ferry visitors along the river, especially in the evening, when lanterns are set floating on the water for good luck. For centuries, ships from China, Japan and Europe came here to trade silk, porcelain and spices.

Puzzle tip: the boats and the yellow houses are the easiest parts; the water comes last.
