About Deadvlei, Namibia

Deadvlei is a white clay pan surrounded by some of the highest red dunes in the Namib Desert. Camel thorn trees grew here about 900 years ago, when a river flooded the pan; then the dunes cut the river off and the trees died. The air is so dry that their blackened trunks have never rotted away.

Puzzle tip: the dark trees against the white ground are the easiest pieces; the orange dunes and blue sky come next.
