About Abhayagiri Stupa, Anuradhapura

Anuradhapura was the first great capital of Sri Lanka and for more than a thousand years one of the main centres of Buddhism in Asia. The Abhayagiri Stupa was first built in the first century BC by King Valagamba and later enlarged; it was once more than a hundred metres high and among the tallest structures of the ancient world. Around it grew a monastery where thousands of monks lived, and the Chinese pilgrim Faxian described it when he visited in the fifth century. This photo shows the great brick dome and its spire under a blue sky with white clouds.

Puzzle tip: start with the brick dome and its spire, then fill the white clouds and the blue sky.
